DNS is the internet’s address book. Your device asks a DNS server where to find a website or stream, so a slow or unreliable DNS can make channels take longer to start. Changing it is free and takes a few minutes.
Popular public DNS servers
| Provider | Primary | Secondary |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare | 1.1.1.1 | 1.0.0.1 |
| 8.8.8.8 | 8.8.4.4 | |
| Quad9 | 9.9.9.9 | 149.112.112.112 |
How to change DNS
- 1
On your router (best)
Open your router’s settings page, find the internet or WAN settings, and enter the primary and secondary DNS. Save and restart. Every device now uses it.
- 2
On an Android TV or Fire TV
Open Wi-Fi settings, choose your network, then change IP settings to static and enter the DNS. Wired connections use the router DNS.
- 3
On Windows
Open Network settings, choose your adapter, edit the IPv4 properties and enter the DNS servers.
- 4
On iPhone or iPad
Open Wi-Fi settings, tap the network, choose Configure DNS and enter the servers manually.
Check that it helped
Open a few channels before and after the change. If channels start faster and stay stable, keep it. If not, switch back to automatic and look at your internet speed and Wi-Fi next.
